On May 20, YAL and Studium Generale organized the public event Time Talks: Temporality Across Disciplines, where several YAL members shared their insights. Lieke Smits talked about the cyclical, linear and contemplative temporalities of the Middle Ages, Arjan Louwen discussed the way archeologists measure the passage of time with old and new methods, and Marcel van Daalen ended with the timescale and future of the universe. The audience was asked to reflect on their view of time: is it a line, a circle, a spiral or something entirely different?

This event was part of YAL’s Season of Interdisciplinarity: Spring of Time – see above for the final event in this season! |

“Waarom je niet alle verontwaardiging moet temperen” After seeing a sticker proposing a new name for the Cleveringaplaats Lieke Smits talks about indignation in her new column (in Dutch). Sharing your indignation can lead to a feeling of righteousness, but sometimes we should temper the outrage. However she argues that indignation can be transformed into curiosity, which led her to read Cleveringa's lecture. |
