| What's moving: news and updates |
|
This autumn, there is a lot happening within Academia in Motion. Below, we highlight the most important developments.
|
|
|
 |
In the context of national developments, such as the position paper Room for Everyone’s Talent (Dutch: Ruimte voor ieders talent), our university is continuing to embed the principles of Academia in Motion in its career development policy for all staff members. In practice, this means that both the university-wide and faculty-level career policies are being aligned with the principles of the Academia in Motion Framework, with attention to different roles and contributions within and across the various domains of our work.
To ensure a shared approach across the university, faculty career policies are reviewed by the deans and the Rector Magnificus, based on advice from the university-wide Academia in Motion team and HR. The Faculty of Law recently completed this process, following the Faculty of Science, which did so last year. From 1 October, the Faculty of Law will begin implementing its new career development policy. More information will be made available on the faculty website. The new policy and the experiences gained from its implementation will be evaluated in detail in spring 2028.
Meanwhile, the consultation process on the new university-wide career development policy is ongoing. This policy will replace the current Guidelines for the Appointment of Academic Staff at Leiden University. All faculties will have reviewed or developed their own policies in line with the principles of Academia in Motion before the summer of 2027. |

| Review of the Leiden Protocol for Research Evaluation |
| With the introduction of the new Strategy Evaluation Protocol 2027-2033, the Leiden Protocol for research evaluations is also being revised. Research units are encouraged to work from their own strategy and shared ambitions, and to evaluate these on a regular basis. As part of this process, they are invited to look ahead to the next evaluation cycle and consider at an early stage which indicators and forms of evidence can best support their research evaluation from a broad perspective on quality. The Leiden Protocol is currently under review by the University Council and will be published once it has been formally adopted. |
| Open Sessions: Help shape the academic culture of the future |
What will the academic culture of the future look like? And what qualities will define a Colleague in Motion in the years ahead?
During two open sessions, we will explore these questions together with colleagues from across the university. Facilitated by Sjoerd Louwaars from the Organisational Development team, the sessions will feature inspiring examples from practice, bring together different perspectives, and look ahead together with our current Colleagues in Motion.
The open sessions will take place on:
- 2 November, 14:00–16:00 in Leiden (Agora)
- 9 November, 10:00–12:00 in The Hague (Spuigebouw)
